My alma mater is the State University of Campinas, in Brazil, where I received my Bachelor degree (2003),
my MSc (2005), and my PhD in Physics (2008).
Before joining the University of Minnesota, I was a postdoc at Ames Laboratory (20082011) and
a joint postdoc at Columbia University / Los Alamos National Lab (20112012).
Research Interests
I am a theorist working on strongly correlated electronic manybody systems. My interests are very broad, and much
of my research is strongly experimentoriented. In general, I am interested in clean and disordered systems in which
ordered phases associated with different broken symmetries are present, such as superconductivity, magnetism, structural
ordering and electronic liquidcrystalline states. Here are some of the topics I have been working on lately:
 Unconventional superconductivity in iron pnictides, cuprates, and STO interfaces.
 Emergent electronic liquidcrystalline phases: nematic phase in ironbased superconductors; Z4 symmetrybreaking in graphene; nematicity in heavy fermions.
 Interplay between spin, charge, orbital, and lattice degrees of freedom in materials displaying multiple instabilities.
 Transport in correlated paramagnetic systems: metallic spinice in
the pyrochlore lattice; nematic phase in the iron pnictides; Mott insulator close to the finite temperature critical endpoint.
 Effects of disorder and impurities in quantum critical systems: quantum rotors in the presence of a magnetic field; magnetic quantum critical point in Fermi liquids.
 Competing magnetic interactions and magnetic domain structures.
