Current Research

I'm working on EBEX-IDS optics design and AR coatings for alumina, sapphire, and silicon lenses in the 50-500 GHz band. My current focus is machining sub-wavelength structures onto the surface of a lens to create a metamaterial with a smoothly varying index of refraction. The goal is to develop this metamaterial layer into a broadband AR coating. These AR coatings could be used for many different CMB experiments; current ideas include JAXA's proposed LiteBIRD project, future versions of EBEX, and ground based projects like CMB-S4. I'm working with Shaul Hanany from the University of Minnesota and Tomotake Matsumura from JAXA in Japan.
